It becomes a legal signal. Rahm is separating the old LIV — the one he signed a contract reportedly worth hundreds of millions of dollars — from the new LIV, the one CEO Scott O’Neil describes as ‘LIV 2.0.’ When reporters asked Rahm if he wants a pathway back to the PGA Tour, Rahm did not say yes or no. He said: ‘I still have a contract with LIV 1.0 that I’m more than willing to fulfill. So, like I said, time will tell.’ The phrase ‘LIV 1.0’ contains a subtle warning. Rahm is not telling fans he is leaving. He is telling LIV’s current leadership that his original contract was made with a different structure. If LIV 2.0 is a new entity, who assumes responsibility for the old contract? That question matters more than any single tournament result. Investors will only commit money to LIV if major stars like Rahm stay. Rahm will stay only if the new owners guarantee his original payment terms. This is the financial loop LIV must break. If not, Rahm can simply wait and see whether the league exists as a legal entity able to pay him. The contrarian view is that Rahm is not preparing to go back to the PGA Tour. He is preparing to force LIV’s hand. If he truly wanted to leave, he would have said so. By choosing ‘time will tell,’ Rahm leaves the door open for a future under LIV 2.0 — but only under the condition that the contract is honored. Fans who love the PGA Tour often see Rahm as a traitor. Rahm, however, has never treated professional golf as a loyalty test. He left for more money. He will stay if the money is real. If LIV 2.0 cannot pay, Rahm will look for a place that can.
